History
Since 1980, Alaska Conservation Foundation has been a vital force protecting and enhancing the Great Land and its natural, wild ecosystems—the last of their kind in our nation.
Through the support of individuals and foundations, ACF has awarded more than $26 million in grants to over 200 organizations. It serves as the eyes and ears for a statewide and national constituency deeply concerned about Alaska’s future.
As the major philanthropic link between Alaska's conservation community and thousands of committed donors nationwide, ACF’s funding efforts have defeated threats to Alaska's environmental integrity and have enabled the training of dedicated Alaskan stewards. Through its close working relationship with the environmental community, ACF has created critical new projects and organizations and set a strategic course for Alaska. Coalitions such as Alaska Rainforest Campaign and Alaska Marine Conservation Council exist and thrive because of ACF.
Although Alaska's ecosystems have been protected more than any other in the world, their legacy is constantly being threatened by clearcutting, land giveaways, roads through wilderness, and incremental ecosystem degradation. ACF’s long-term, proactive commitment is crucial to secure the magnificence of Alaska's natural heritage. ACF identifies problems and opportunities, funds grassroots organizations best suited to meet the challenges, and creates new programs and coalitions when the need arises.
ACF is proud to have demonstrated a remarkable history and to strive for an unlimited future protecting and sustaining Alaska’s treasures . . . but your help is urgently needed.
