Annual Giving and Events Coordinator
Leah M. Doney-Neel
Tired of the fast-paced life of Washington, D.C., Leah picked up and moved to Alaska in August 2005, and promptly joined the Alaska Conservation Foundation team that September. Originally from New Jersey, Leah has had an interest in conservation issues ever since elementary school. She graduated from Cook College, Rutgers University in 1997 with a B.S. in International Environmental Studies with an emphasis on International Environmental and Resource Policy, complemented with extensive coursework in Native American Studies.
She left New Jersey and moved to Northern Virginia in 1998 to work for Earth Force, a non-profit organization that engages young people as active citizens in environmental issues; while at Earth Force, she helped spearhead the Get Out Spoke’n! campaign, an effort to get youth nation-wide involved in making their communities bicycle friendly. After that, she worked as a contractor for the National Environmental Trust, working on the Pollution Solutions Tour, a one-year, nation-wide traveling campaign showcasing the latest in environmentally-friendly technology as a means to reduce the impact of global warming. In 2000, Leah joined Community Rights Counsel, a nonprofit, public interest law firm that was formed to assist communities in protecting their health and welfare.
Leah lives in Wasilla with her husband Scott, one cat, and one dog. They are expecting their first child, a boy, in November 2008. In her spare time she enjoys baking, reading, music, studying Native American cultures, and hiking, and is an avid New Jersey Devils fan. Hoping to have more spare time in Alaska than she did in D.C., she hopes to devote time to photography/scrapbooking, bicycling, and playing the flute.
