The Organizational Effectiveness Program
Alaska Conservation Foundation is committed to helping Alaska’s conservation community address internal operational issues while strengthening their capacity to carry out programmatic initiatives. If the conservation movement in Alaska is to be effective in the short and long terms, we must ensure that key grassroots organizations become and remain strong and resilient—from entry-level staff to the President of the Board of Trustees.
Today, the challenges faced by the directors of Alaska-based conservation groups are many—from retaining strong staff and meeting programmatic objectives to building cash reserves for unanticipated needs.
Alaska’s intact ecosystems cannot be protected without these important conservation groups. Healthy conservation organizations are a necessary element for achieving conservation goals and attracting foundation and other funding. Through our grantmaking and technical assistance materials, ACF has provided countless hours of support and guidance to help groups remain organizationally strong to protect Alaska.
Over the past year, the positive benefits to the conservation community resulting from the Organizational Effectiveness Program include:
- Improved coordination and execution of targeted strategies among groups involved in statewide campaigns on coal bed methane, mining, and pesticides.
- Increased capacity for effective message development, media relations, and issue framing.
- Enhanced membership and development programs customized for individual conservation organizations as provided through ACF funding to Training Resources for the Environmental Community.
- Specialized support to campaigns and individuals including economic analysis, scientific reports, and tactical negotiation services.
